No Kings #3

On March 28, 2026, more than 8 million people came together across the country in what is being recognized as the largest single-day nonviolent protest in modern American history. And Sarasota pulled its weight. So many folks put the rest of their life on hold for a few hours to participate. Sarasota No Kings protesters displayed optimism and musicality throughout the afternoon. And, yes the video goes on and on, because there were so many in attendance at the rally.

Out on the streets, there were a different cast of characters at every corner. Some with huge signs. Some with fun costumes. At one corner, a small group found their theme song in Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It." This joyful group got folks in the mood to stand up for human rights, to oppose starting wars, to stand in the way of environmental destruction, to demand accountability from the Epstein files, and/or enjoy the sound of their own voices.

And on another corner, set back from the street, there was the cutest threesome, merrily entertaining the crowds.

But make no mistake. These crowds are deadly serious. The current administration is handing out massive giveaways to loyal billionaires, while we watch the cost of living spike. They have engaged in extra-judicial killings at sea as well as started all out wars. They have sent masked agents into neighborhoods, terrorizing whole communities. They have especially targeted immigrants, detaining folks without warrants. They are gutting environmental regulations, one at a time. Defunding public education is a high priority. Recent redistricting will in effect silence voters. They are now insisting that our elections are rigged, despite no evidence to that effect. The vast majority of we-the-people disapprove of these corrupt, authoritarian power grabs. In Sarasota, we showed up to announce "No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings."
